Cute soft toys from Babe movie

Three extremely cute mice soft toys promoting the 1998 movie Babe: Pig in the City.  This movie is the sequel to the original Babe movie which screened in 1995.  This is the story of a pig who is raised amongst sheepdogs.  Our can-do pig thinks he can shepherd sheep and sets out to prove himself with the support of the farmer who is willing to give him a chance.  The original movie captured the imagination of millions of movie-goers worldwide and even picked up an Academy Award for Visual Effects.
In the sequel, it continues from where the 1st movie left off.  Babe is now a champion shepherd pig but unfortunately our farmer is injured and the farmer's wife has to take over the farming responsibilities. She tries her best but is unable to meet the demands of the bank.  Soon our pig travels to the city with the farmer's wife and eventually saves the farm with much help from his animal friends.

I need help with my Dumb n Dumber Pencil

What I have here is a movie premium from the 1994 movie Dumb n Dumber starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as two dumb loser buddies who set off on a cross country trip to return a suitcase full of money.  They are followed in hot pursuit by a pair of criminals who want to grab the money for themselves.  Yes, I remembered enjoying the brainless movie a lot. And YES I know this thing I have here is a pencil.  You think I'm DUMB?!  Btw... can somebody tell me how to use my pencil?  Please??? I can't seem to be able to write with it....don't know why?

Cool Men in Black 2 Shades

Missed out on these cool shades in my earlier post and just found the item in my inventory so here it is for everyone to enjoy. This is of course a promotional item for the MIIB movie, sequel to the hugely successful Men in Black movie casting Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as agents of an organisation who monitor and  police alien activity on Earth.  To view my other Men in Black item, please click here.

Mickey Blue Eyes Mini Frame with Easel Stand

This is really something!  I was marvelling at the creativity of the Studios' A&P guys when I received this lovely promotional item for the 1999 movie Mickey Blue Eyes.   Why?  That's because of the relevance of this item to the movie.  Hugh Grant stars as the central character in the movie who is an art house auctioneer! He has a steady girlfriend who rejects him outright when he proposes.  Eventually he finds out the reason for the rejection.  She is the daughter of a mobster who does not want our innocent auctioneer to be caught up in her father's illicit activities. To impress his future father-in-law, he pretends to be a mobster called Mickey Blue Eyes to comic effect.  Things get worse when a godfather decides to launder his no-talent son's gory paintings through the art house and gets the FBI into the picture.

The Birdcage Movie Collectible Pin

An exquisitely made movie pin promoting the 1996 movie The Birdcage starring Robin Williams.  He plays a gay cabaret owner with a drag queen companion.  Problems arise when Williams' son announces that he is inviting his fiance and her parents home for a visit.  The future-in-laws are ultra-conversative and our man must convince them that he is as uptight as they are.   Comedic situations as the gay couple's attempts to hide behind a false front fail miserably.

Inglourious Basterds Movie T-shirt

Yesterday I collected this nice T-shirt which I won in a contest. Its a small size and I can't really describe the colour, its kind of olIve-green/ash-grey.

This T-shirt is obviously promoting the latest movie Inglourious Basterds directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Brad Pitt. Oher official merchandise from Universal Studios are a baseball cap and bag but they may not be available in Singapore. I missed the opportunity to catch the preview yesterday but I'll be sure to watch the movie when it opens tomorrow on Thurs 17 Sep.

The Day After Tomorrow Postcards

Set of 4 glossy postcards printed in the USA by TCF for promoting the 2004 movie The Day After Tomorrow. The postcards are nicely made to resemble screen captures of disaster news reports on television.
As described on the reverse of each card:
Top left: Los Angeles, California: Tornadoes reach 250MPH (400KPH). The City is dismantled.
Top right: New York Harbor, New York: Tide 290-350 Feet(85-110M) above norm.
Bottom left: Agra, India: Snowfall blankets the Taj Mahal for the first time in recorded history.
Bottom right: Tokyo, Japan: The City is ripped away by hail weighing 5LBs. (2.25KG) and measuring up to 10IN. (25CM)

Lovable Handmade ET Movie Plush Toy

This is my 1982 beloved ET movie soft toy from Universal City Studios measuring 35cm in height . Made by hand in Korea, it is very cute but not very huggable due to the shape. It is also top heavy and tends to topple over quite easily. I have visited flea markets and vintage toy shops around the island but have not seen another soft toy that looks like mine. If you have an identical soft toy or other ET movie items, I would like to know where you got hold of it. Appreciate if anyone can also give some indication of the rarity/collectible value of this item.

What is that Movie Umbrella worth?

Shown here is a set of the Up! movie premiums given away as contest prizes in Singapore.
Each premium set comes with:
1 x water bottle
1 x travel diary
1 x umbrella
1 x scarf
1 x button badge
Another contest lists the following prizes (don't have the photos though):
Each movie premium set is worth $245 and consists of:
• Movie Poster
• Tumbler
• Travel Diary
• Umbrella
• Cap
• Keychain
• Paper Binoculars
The magazine organizing the contest listed the value of the items at $245! How do you arrive at a figure like that? Is there a commercial value for movie premiums? There will always be people willing to part with money to collect things they like. But then I doubt someone would pay close to $250 for a set of these items, exclusive though they may be.
I am going to share with you an unfortunate incident I experienced using these Up Movie premiums with obviously inflated values as an example. First, imagine that you get lucky and your entry is picked for that $245 movie prize. You turn up at the information counter of the contest organizer and wait patiently while the harried staff verifies your identification and disappears to locate your prizes. You smile to yourself, happily thinking of the nice Up umbrella you will be bringing home.
After what seems an interminable wait, the staff reappears and hands you a bag full of items. Excitedly you take out all the items to verify and almost immediately realise the umbrella is missing! That's the item you like the most! Before you have time to react, the staff tells you matter-of-factly the umbrella is "out of stock" and she has replaced the item with 2 Driving Miss Daisy mousepads. Still in shock, you muster your courage and innocently ask when the umbrella would be available so that you might pick it up on another day. With a meek smile, the staff tells you rather apologetically that "the prize is already given out" You press on and insist on having the full set of items you are entitled to, no more no less. The smile on the staff fades instantly and she highlights the following terms on the contest: The management reserves the right to replace items with those of similar value. Your heart sinking, you can only manage to mutter in a small voice "But what's the value of the umbrella?" Why is it the same value as 2 mousepads?" Looking exasperatedly at you, the staff tells you rather authoritatively: "These items are limited and imported from overseas for movie promotions only. There is no way we can apportion a fixed fair value to individual items. Thank you for your support of our publication!!!"
..... well ok then.
Let me attempt to apportion value to individual items for the sum total of $245.
• Movie Poster $ 80
• Tumbler $ 20
• Travel Diary $ 30
• Umbrella $ 50
• Cap $ 30
• Keychain $ 10
• Paper Binoculars $ 25
That looks about right. What do you think?

Star Wars/ Cars Movie items on sale - Cathay

On Saturday I discovered some collectible movie items for sale at the Cathay cinema in Handy Road. Up for mention is a Star Wars 3D lenticular poster measuring 12" x 18". The 3D effect is well done, practically makes the picture jump out. This would make a nice gift item for the Star Wars collector IMO. I think its woth buying for $15.

Classic Ipod from the Disney Pixar produced movie Cars. Not sure what's the price for the Ipod but I don't really think this movie made a sufficiently big impression on movie-goers to sell these outdated music players.
